Description

  • Modem is a central controller of the system and must be always active, when the system is running
  • Modem’s HW supports up to 250 beacons – mobile + stationary in any combination
  • Modem is used to set up the system, monitor it, and interact with the Dashboard
  • Modem can be placed anywhere within the radio coverage for permanent radio connection with all beacons (star architecture) — usually in the radius of up to 100 meters with antennas from the Starter Set
  • Radio coverage can be extended farther to a few hundred meters by using a radio profile with lower bitrate, for example, 38kbps and a full-size antenna on both ends (modem & beacon). The option shows up to 400+ m range in ideal conditions
  • There are 433MHz and 915/868MHz modem versions available
  • A proprietary radio protocol used for communication and synchronization
  • More on modem interfaces: https://marvelmind.com/download/

How do the power supply for modem

It is USB powered. You connect USB to the computer or external device. The external device is getting the data from the modem and is supplying the modem at the same time.

I purchased a starter set. Is it possible to use one mobile beacon and multiple modems at the same time by purchasing an additional modem?

There are several options:

1) You can set the modems on different radio channels and run several independent networks. They wouldn’t be aware about each other. For that, the beacons must be ultrasonic separated – either by rooms or walls or just be a distance – >=50m or so

2) Today, we support up to 250 beacons (stationary+mobile combined) and a single-modem configuration. In the future, we will supporting multi-modem configurations too: https://marvelmind.com/pics/marvelmind_presentation.pdf => Multi-modem system for underground tracking

So, I guess, your request falls into the Multi-Modem configuration, which we will support in the future.

Can a longer antenna be used for this modem? If so, what would you recommend? I can see the antenna that Marvelmind sells is a “λ/4 165mm 433MHz antenna.” Will this work with the modem, although the band is not 433MHz, since I am in America?

– Yes, the full-size antenna is first of all recommended for the modem, because it would increase the range to all beacons at once.
– We have λ/4 for 915/868MHz as well. Choose that, when selecting the antenna for the US 915MHz or the EU 868MHz band

Thanks. I can see different band options now.
